About AHS
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Aylsham High School. Whether you are a parent searching for the best school for your child, a member of the local community, a visitor from another school or organisation, a student or parent/carer looking for help and guidance or you are considering applying to work at the school, I hope that you will enjoy finding out more about us.
Aylsham High is a popular and successful school that enjoys an excellent reputation for providing a high standard of education. We provide students and colleagues with a welcoming and supportive learning environment. This helps to create a caring, working atmosphere that enables students to reach to their full potential, intellectually, physically, spiritually and ethically. We work hard to challenge all students to do their very best and make the most progress possible whatever their starting point.
We have high expectations of our students and expect them to behave excellently at all times and to take a genuine pride in their appearance and wear their uniforms smartly and correctly. We also believe that it is important to give our students ample opportunities to show leadership and take a proactive role in shaping their school. They are our community leaders of the future and their energy and compassion is crucial in making Aylsham High the vibrant, exciting and caring place that it is.
The school is organised on a House basis with vertical (all age) tutor groups, which gives students the advantage of belonging to a small ‘school within a school’. The five houses are led by a Head Of House working with a team of Form Tutors to ensure that each student is given the best possible support in their learning and that a close eye is kept on their well being and progress.
Our specialism of Business and Enterprise encourages our students to be creative and independent thinkers, confident communicators, imaginative problem solvers and skilled leaders of teams. These are qualities that colleges, universities and employers prize above all others.
In July 2016 we formed the Aylsham Learning Federation with Bure Valley School to help support the development of education in Aylsham. In March 2018 John of Gaunt Infant and Nursery School joined the Federation. We also work very closely with our other partner primary schools to nurture a collaborative and continuous approach to learning and enjoyment. Our work in this area is second to none regionally and is considered to be amongst the best practice to be found nationally. We have also become the first Cluster in Norfolk to form a Co-operative Cluster Trust, which will help this partnership become even stronger. Our collaboration with other secondary schools and Colleges is extensive and helps us to provide an incredibly rich curriculum offer.
Aylsham High School is very much at the heart of its community, which as a resident of Aylsham is also my community. Thanks to the excellent staff and students at the school and the great spirit that exists there and in the wider community Aylsham is truly a great place to work and learn.
Enjoy our website and I look forward to meeting you.
