Developing Enterprise Education and preparing students for the world of work is a key element of our specialism and we have had the opportunity to develop this even further by being one of the first schools in the country to set up a Young Chamber. Gordon Brown, in his 2007 pre-budget speech, emphasised the importance of developing stronger enterprise cultures within schools and wanted to achieve this through 51 Young Chambers of Commerce across the country.

Understanding of business is often an area students are unfamiliar with and this is what we want to change, through the introduction of the Young Chamber. Moving from education to a job is one of the biggest steps anyone has to make in their lives and far too often students are not fully prepared or do not know what to fully expect.

The Young Chamber is designed for students aged 14-19 and works closely alongside the British Chambers of Commerce, which is an organisation owned by its members that brings together local businesses.

Young Chamber provides an excellent opportunity for students throughout the school to become involved with supporting local Entrepreneurship and help to develop those ever-crucial enterprise skills and capabilities.

Young Chamber aims to overcome this through making students more aware of the business environment through contact with local businesses and opportunities to discover possible career paths and develop work experience.

This current scheme, introduced in September 2007, will involve students, schools and the business community.
